June 26, 2026 ::: The Unfolding of the Name I Almost Forgot
I don't know how to start this without it sounding like everyone else's healer origin story. But maybe that's the point. Maybe it's supposed to sound familiar, because it is familiar—overwhelm, disconnection, the slow unraveling that happens before anyone admits they're unraveling.
I didn't choose this. I want to be honest about that. I didn't sit down one day and decide to become someone who does this work. I was just tired. Not the kind of tired sleep fixes. The kind that sits in your chest and doesn't move.
There was a point—I can't even tell you exactly when—where I just stopped. Not dramatically. Just... stopped moving at the pace I'd been moving at, because I couldn't anymore. My body made the decision before my mind caught up.
I wasn't looking for answers. I think I'd stopped believing there were clean ones. I just wanted to feel like myself again. Whatever that meant. Whatever that even was at that point.
No one tells you healing doesn't look the same for everyone. I had to learn that the hard way, comparing my mess to other people's neat little journeys.
The first time I experienced Reiki, I remember waiting for something big to happen. It didn't. It was quiet. Almost nothing, except—my body exhaled. Like it had been holding its breath for years and finally let go, just a little.
I didn't tell anyone right away. I just sat with it.
Something opened. I don't have better language than that. Something opened, and I didn't try to name it yet.
That was the seed. I know that now, looking back. At the time it was just a moment. It took years to become curiosity, then study, then something I trusted enough to keep returning to.
I didn't decide to make this my work. It just kept insisting.
And now I think about the people I hold space for, and I recognize something in almost all of them—that same tiredness. That same quiet asking. I don't fix it. I don't think that's ever been my job. I just try to hold the space the way it was once held for me.
There's a piece of this I haven't said out loud much.
Almost six years ago—an ordinary Tuesday, maybe, I don't fully remember—I sat in a class where we were asked to pick a name. Something to carry into the work.
I remember resisting. I already had a name. Why did I need another one.
But I did the exercise anyway, half-annoyed, and what came up wasn't a decision. It was more like something surfacing that had been there the whole time, waiting to be noticed.
Akasha Rain.
I wrote it down. I didn't examine it too closely. I turned it in and moved on with my life, the way you do with things that don't seem urgent yet.
Almost six years later, it's come back. Not as an idea this time. As something closer to true.
I don't fully understand it. I'm not sure I need to.
What I want to offer isn't really a service. I don't even love that word for this.
It's a space. Quiet, unhurried. Somewhere you're not a problem waiting to be solved. Somewhere your healing doesn't have to perform or prove itself. It can just... happen, in whatever time it needs.
Like rain. It doesn't rush. It just returns.
Reiki isn't something I do to someone. I've come to believe it's closer to permission—for the body to remember, for the mind to quiet, for whatever's been stuck to loosen on its own terms.
If you're reading this, maybe some part of you already knows why.
I'm not asking you to arrive whole, or certain, or ready.
